Case for DC Charter Schools

Student

More than 47,000 students attend charter schools in DC, or 46 percent of public school students, from age 3 to adulthood. The families who choose a charter school for their children’s public education do so for different reasons, but they all want a school dedicated to their children’s success in school and in life.

DC charters are a diverse community that includes homegrown, single-site charter schools and nationally recognized models. Each charter school provides unique educational models and experiences; they work together as a sector to ensure public schools have the necessary resources to provide a quality education. Charter schools make a promise to their communities to deliver a quality education, whether that is a school focused on social justice, a school that offers instruction in multiple languages, a Montessori-based curriculum, inquiry-based learning, or another learning approach.

With more than a decade of academic growth, DC charter schools are building the public education system that our families deserve.
