As Director of Community Engagement, Belén Mendoza adds community and parent engagement capacity while helping the DC Charter School Alliance grow our advocacy efforts across the city. Belén brings 15 years of experience transforming organizations by shaping programs, public policies, and public opinion to mobilize stakeholders in scaling their impact across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Prior to joining the DC Charter School Alliance, Belén founded Building Blueprints Strategies, where she worked with nonprofits and public and private sector organizations on facilitation, organizational development, change management, and executive coaching.

For almost two decades, Belén's advocacy efforts have spanned 50 states; she has influenced two federal and three state regulations across 14 states around healthcare, civic engagement, and financial security. Belén uses a total market approach for policy advocacy by running integrating campaigns and building relationships with Senators, Congress, and State Legislators. She also managed the team responsible for defeating the Senate's efforts on public policy to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act in 2017. In addition, she has been featured as a media spokesperson on radio and TV on Telemundo and Univision.

Belén has certifications in change management, agile leadership, marketing, and innovation ecosystems from Prosci, Georgetown University, Harvard Extension School, and MIT Sloan and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Florida International University.
